  • Academic Senate Touches Lompoc High

The secrets of planet Earth were discussed last month at Lompoc High School by geologists Tanya Atwater and Bruce Tiffney in the first public outing of the UCSB Academic Senate's new outreach program.
More than 100 students from the school's six science classes attended, and many asked questions and filled in evaluation forms. Walter Yuen, professor of mechanical and environmental engineering and director of the Senate's Center for Faculty Outreach, called the early morning trip "productive, well worthwhile."
In addition to Yuen, Atwater, and Tiffney, geological sciences outreach coordinator Chuck Anderson and Senate Executive Director Claudia Chapman went along to provide technical support. Other such forums are in planning with additional departments. Yuen can be contacted at x3892.
