    Calling Commencement Volunteers
Thousands of people will descend on the campus for commencement activities on June 15 and 16. Volunteers are urgently needed to assist in various ways: program distribution, commencement souvenir book sales, faculty robing in Hatlen, student lineup, and more. If interested, call Laurie Horton (x7382) in the Office of Public Events, or e-mail her at <laurie.horton@ia.ucsb.edu>.

    Marine Sciences Sets Its Anchor
Ground was broken on May 23 for the Marine Science Research Building, which will be the new home of the Marine Science Institute. With MSI Director Steve Gaines as master of ceremonies, Chancellor Henry T. Yang and France Córdova, vice chancellor for research, lauded the collaborative efforts involved in launching the four-story, 60,000 square-foot building next to the new Bren Hall. Construction is to be completed in 2004.
