    At a 3:30 to 5 p.m., reception-style meeting on June 6 in the Faculty Club, the Academic Senate and UCSB Foundation will bestow Distinguished Teaching Awards on six faculty members. Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards will also go to four teaching assistants at the same reception. Each awardee will receive $1,000.
    Faculty recipients for 2001-02 with Senate membership include Mario T. Garcia, professor in history and Chicano studies; Colin Gardner, assistant professor, Art Studio; Armand Kuris, professor, ecology, evolution, and marine biology; Bruce H. Lipshutz, professor, chemistry and biochemistry; and Lisa Parks, assistant professor, film studies.
    Alexis Alevras, visiting professor in mathematics, was chosen for this year's teaching award given to a non-Senate instructor.
    Outstanding teaching assistants selected by the Senate's Committee on Effective Teaching and Instructional Support include Maeve Cowan, history; Jeffrey J. Hemphill, geography; Luke Matjas, Art Studio; and Amber Rosin, mathematics.
    The chancellor's Faculty Recognition Dinner and Reception, which is by invitation only, will also honor all faculty who have received special notice this year, including the Senate's distinguished teachers. It is set for June 3 at 5 p.m. in the Faculty Club.
