Strikers from the Coalition of University Employees and the American Federation of Teachers picketed last week at UCSB's main entrances and some buildings, such as the Orfalea Family Children's Center, the UCen, and Cheadle Hall. George Pernsteiner, vice chancellor, administrative services, reported "minor disruptions" of classes and services, though he said that one office did close and a few classes were canceled or taught off campus during the three-day strike. The children's center reduced its client load in anticipation of the absence of about a dozen teachers. The current UC offer to CUE has an Oct. 31 response deadline.
