  • Car Pool Permits Slashed to $17

Starting in February, a pilot project to encourage the formation of new car pools will offer participants a special permit rate of $17 a month, announced Tom Roberts, director of transportation and parking (T&P).
Full-time faculty and career staff who have had valid parking permits for at least the previous three months are eligible for the special discount, he said. Because only one participant can have the parking permit (and pre-tax payroll deduction), the others would return their A or S parking permits to T&P.
However, every one of the people in the pool would qualify for the six free parking days each quarter and the emergency ride home, added Jamey Wagner, head of the Transportation Alternatives Program. He pointed out that an additional benefit to car pools is that three or more participants receive a designated parking space.
Wagner and Roberts warned that if insufficient numbers sign up for the discounted car pool program, the pilot project could end with only 30 days notice.
