More than 500 bargain-hunters
descended on Embarcadero Hall last month to browse through clothes,
books, furniture, and toys at the annual Great Isla Vista Extravaganza
(G.I.V.E.) sale, which was organized by I.V./UCSB Liaison Catherine
Boyer and 23 volunteers. Boyer said about $3,800 was raised selling
items donated mainly by departing I.V. and residence hall students.
Campus units, such as Housing and Residential Services, also contributed
goods and services to the recycling project. Isla Vista Youth
Projects and teen center will receive the lion's share of
the proceeds, based on funding choices by the volunteer workers.
