    Grad Student Housing Plan
    Plans for the 371-unit San Clemente Graduate Student Housing project will be aired at a UCSB-Santa Barbara County scooping session on Wednesday, March 5. Public comment is invited at the session, which will run from 7–8:30 p.m. at Embarcadero Hall, 935 Embarcadero Del Norte, in Isla Vista. Written comments on the 12-acre project east of Los Carneros Road, on part of Storke Field, plus the county's proposed improvements to El Colegio, will be accepted until March 15 by Jennifer Metz at budget and planning.



    HONORS & AWARDS


    Alice Condodina, professor emeritus of dramatic art and founder of UCSB's former Repertory-West Dance Company, recently received the Santa Barbara Dance Alliance's Lifetime Achievement Award for her many contributions to dance.


    Ellen McCracken, professor of Spanish and Portuguese, has earned a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship Award for her study of the New Mexico Hispano writer Fray Angélico Chávez.


    Mary McMahon, assistant dean in the Graduate Division, is one of 25 participants in the German 2003 Fulbright Seminar for United States Administrators. She will study Germany's higher education system.


    The UCSB Optimists Club last month walked away from its parent organization's quarterly conference with "some of the highest awards a club can earn," reported Shari Profant, president of the campus group. Mark Weinsoff, far right, won the district's Optimist of the Year as well as citations for distinguished service as lieutenant governor; Victor Bartolome, center, and Barbara Bartolome (not pictured) were honored for their service as treasurer and secretary, respectively; Profant, far left, was honored for her service to the childhood cancer program, as club newsletter editor, and president.



    TRANSITIONS


    Barbara Sanchez is a new personnel assistant with the Marine Science Institute. She was previously with the Air Pollution Control District and Goleta Union School District.


    Jill Singletary, former biology undergraduate adviser, has been selected coordinator for the UCSB Police Department's Community Service Organization.
