Preceded by the campus panel "Collecting Memory" on Nov. 6, the permanent collection of local Holocaust survivors' pictures and storiescalled "Portraits of Survival: Life Journeys During the Holocaust and Beyond"opened to the public on Nov. 9 at the Jewish Federation's community center in downtown Santa Barbara. In his remarks, Chancellor Henry Yang noted that the campus's collaboration was inspired by Mara Kohn, wife of physics research professor Walter Kohn. Among the UCSB faculty, staff, and administrators present for the gallery's dedication were, from left, Richard Hecht, who organized the campus panel; Chancellor and Mrs. Yang; faculty panelists Susan Derwin and Harold Marcuse; and David Marshall, dean of humanities and fine arts and a member of the project's Creative Committee.
