Retired Admiral to Manage Labs

Earlier this month retired Admiral S. Robert Foley became UC vice president for laboratory management. The longtime naval commander, who was appointed to his new post last month by the UC Regents, has primary responsibility for the University's management of the three national laboratories it administers on behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy and its National Nuclear Security Administration.
"The work of the national laboratories is critical to our nation's security," said UC President Robert Dynes, "and Bob has the experience, the drive, and the leadership abilities to ensure that scientific and technological breakthroughs continue while we continue to make management improvements."
Foley, who will be paid just under $351,000, succeeds John P. McTague as vice president for laboratory management.
