Silver Building Standard RecommendedThe Campus Planning Committee has urged Chancellor Henry T. Yang to raise the floor of environmental standards on new campus construction.
At its regular meeting on Nov. 25, the CPC voted to recommend to the chancellor that UCSB accept no lower than the U.S. Green Building Council's silver standard for all campus building projects approved after July 1, 2004.
Some projects already under construction, such as the $25 million Marine Sciences Research Building, are expected to achieve a silver rating, but others in the pipeline will not meet the higher standards.
