Children's Day on Campus Scheduled for April 2

Participation requirements for UCSB's Children's Day activities on April 2 have been announced by campus organizer Wendy Nishikawa. Up to 75 children of between 5 and 14 years of age will be enrolled on a first-come, first-served basis from employees' families in the free, daylong event.
Deadline for parents to return registration and liability waiver forms is March 24; the forms will become available on-line starting today, March 15, at Human Resources <http://hr.ucsb.edu>.
All forms must be filled in, signed, and mailed to Nishikawa, care of Children's Day Subcommittee, Human Resources, SAASB 3101, mail code: 3160.
A light breakfast will begin the day at 8:30 a.m. in front of Cheadle Hall. Breakfast and lunch will be provided free to the children and volunteer workers, said Nishikawa, who also coordinates the campus Work/Life Program.
"We encourage parents to attend workshops with their children, but will have chaperones for each group (in case they cannot)," she added.
Among the activities scheduled are calligraphy and tour of the University Art Museum; touch tanks at the Marine Science Institute; a self-defense class; a ropes course; a film at the MultiCultural Center; "step" dance instruction from the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity; and other educational diversions.
Parents may also want to arrange an afternoon visit to their workplace, as one of the goals is to introduce children to educational and/or work opportunities at UCSB. Organized activities end with a 3 p.m. closing on the lawn in front of the Women's Center.
