UCSB Cops to Help Special Olympic Athletes
Irish tunes will combine with good food at the Faculty Club on Wednesday, March 17, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in hopes that diners will open their wallets and purses at the sixth annual Tip-a-Cop benefit for the Special Olympics.
As maitre d', Acting Police Chief Bill Bean will guide his cadre of UCSB police officers in quick, efficient dining room service. Faculty Club General Manager Linda Ruuska has planned a St. Patrick's Day menu that aims to please the palate and ease the way to generous tipping. Call x3096 to reserve a table.
Past luncheons have raised $800 or more at a time for local athletes participating in the Special Olympics. Sgt. Suzanne Malloy, organizer with Ruuska of the event, will bring her fiddle and provide some lively tunes to accompany the guitar work of Marcello de Souza, a senior music major.
In early June, in another benefit, UCSBPD officers plan to join other law enforcement agencies on local legs of the Special Olympics Torch Run.
