Web Standards Workshop

Any staff or faculty member who maintains or works on a campus Web site is invited to attend a Web Standards Workshop on Wednesday, April 8. The workshop will cover a variety of topics, including policies regarding the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), Web security, and usability for all campus Web sites. The workshop, which begins at 10 a.m. in the Training Room at the Environmental Health and Safety building, is limited to 50 participants. Advance registration is required and can be completed online at http://ehs.ucsb.edu/4DAction/WebCourseSessionList. Questions can be directed to Julie Koppel at julie.koppel@ehs.ucsb.edu.


HONORS & AWARDS


Jacob Israelachvili, professor of chemical engineering is the 2009 recipient of the American Chemical Society’s Award in Colloid and Surface Chemistry. The award was presented at the society’s annual meeting on March 22.



Celine Parreñas Shimizu, associate professor of Asian American studies, has received the Book Award in Cultural Studies for “The Hypersexuality of Race: Performing Asian/American Women on Screen and Scene” (Duke University Press, 2007). The award was presented by the Association of Asian American Studies


PUBLICATIONS


Stanley Anderson, professor emeritus of political science, has published “Reform in a Prison Hospital: A Doctor and an Ombudsman Blow the Whistle–A Dramatic Case Study of Bioethics, Criminal Justice & Public Administration” (iUniverse, 2009).



TRANSITIONS


Barbara Kane has been named Manager, Gift Administration in the Office of Development. She has been a senior auditor in Audit and Advisory Services at UCSB for the past four years, and prior to joining UCSB, she had her own law practice.


Cecilia Rios has joined the Office of Development as Development Assistant, Major Gift Planning.  She has previously worked at UCSB in the chemistry department, the Center for Chicano Studies, and ISBER.



IN MEMORIAM


Robin Zierau-Cooper died on January 18. She joined the UCSB staff in1988 as a library assistant and was a supervisor in the materials department when she left the university in 2003.


Gloria A. Cordova died on February 11. She joined the UCSB staff in 2004 and was a senior custodian in facilities management at the time of her death.
