Become an Advocate in the UCSB Advocacy NetworkWe invite you to get involved by joining the UCSB Advocacy Network. The mission of the Advocacy Network is to enhance public understanding of and support for the University of California and UC Santa Barbara. The Advocacy Network is comprised of alumni and friends of UCSB who volunteer their time to work with the UCSB Alumni Association and the UCSB Office of Governmental Relations.

Advocates help convey UC and campus specific messages to local, state and federal government representatives regarding legislative and budget initiatives which affect the mission and activities of the University of California and the campus. The Advocacy Network is coordinated by the campus's governmental relations office and functions at the behest of the University's Office of the President, the State Governmental Relations office in Sacramento and the Federal Governmental Relations office in Washington, D.C.

Serving as an advocate is rewarding, yet not time consuming. During the legislative session there are typically two to three "calls for help" to contact legislators by means of letters or telephone calls (all the necessary materials are provided). There is also the annual opportunity to attend UC Day in Sacramento. UC Day brings Advocates from all the UC campuses together to hear from legislators and UC officials about pertinent matters. This day also provides the occasion for advocates to be in the state Capitol and visit with their own elected representatives in small groups. As an Advocate you will receive periodic communications to keep you current on local, state and federal issues.

Volunteer advocates are vitally important to the University's efforts to increase and strengthen support for its teaching, research and public service missions. We hope you will join us.

To volunteer as an Advocate, please fill out and submit the UCSB Advocate Survey Form. If you are already an advocate, you may use this form to send us your updated contact information.
