Economic Forecast ProjectWith its combined offerings of new technology, innovative research, and faculty expertise, UCSB is a valuable resource for the economic development of the Santa Barbara community.

    Employers seeking full-time workers can participate in on-campus recruitment through the Campus Interview Program. Using an online database, students submit their resumes and view information about the prospective company. Employers specify the date and time they wish to hold the interviews and also provide information about the position requirements.

    GauchoLink is a free, on-line service for posting jobs to UCSB students, a one-stop shop for listing part-time, full-time or internship positions.     Open to the community for meetings, banquets, special occasions and conferences, the Faculty Club provides a scenic location and excellent gourmet cuisine.   • Center for Control Dynamical Systems and Computation (CCDC)
    Through its cross-disciplinary approach, the Center for Control Engineering and Computation utilizes the expertise of faculty, graduate students, and experts in the field. The Center initiates and coordinates research projects that apply to industrial, environmental, transportation, and defense systems. The Center organizes workshops, seminars, and short courses by leading experts in the field and publishes a technical report series.

  • Entrepreneurship 101
    An annual Saturday workshop in entrepreneurship is offered each spring quarter. Successful entrepreneurial alumni and community members offer advice on developing and implementing effective business plans.

  • Institute for Quantum and Complex Dynamics (iQCD)
    The Institute for Quantum and Complex Dynamics (iQCD) focuses on experimental and theoretical studies of the dynamics of systems ranging in size from small molecules, proteins and small semiconductor devices, to pattern-forming fluids and even landscapes. The institute brings together researchers in areas including chemistry and biochemistry, physics, electrical and computer engineering, mathematics, and materials science. The iQCD hosts the Center for Terahertz Science and Technology (CTST) and the Center for Nonlinear Science (CNLS). The CTST is the home of UCSB’s world-renowned Free-Electron Lasers, which generate intense electromagnetic radiation tunable over a wide range of frequencies in the neighborhood of 1 trillion cycles per second (1 Terahertz). In addition to catalyzing research opportunities and offering a rich environment for graduate students, iQCD provides a number of educational opportunities for undergraduates and high school students.

  • Microelectronics Innovations and Computer Research Opportunities MICRO)
    The MICRO program was established in 1981 by the State of California. Its purpose is to support innovative research in microelectronics technology, its applications in computer and information sciences, and its necessary antecedents in other physical science disciplines. The objective is to help the California electronics and computer industries maintain their leadership by expanding relevant research and graduate student training and education at the University of California.

  • Tech Management (TM)
    UCSB's Tech Management program was designed to meet the standards of today's business world. Tech Management is simultaneously redefining both business and engineering education with a comprehensive curriculum of preparing for the management and founders of tomorrow's technology ventures. From yesterday's successful Center for Entrepreneurship and engineering Management to today's launch of its successor Tech Management (TM), the College of Engineering has sought to be on the cutting edge of entrepreneurial education. TM's curriculum and outreach programs will continue the College's tradition, with cutting edge entrepreneurship lecture series, business plan competition, and leadership events as we build new educational programs for students and the Central Coast Business community.

  • Technology Management Program (TMP)
    The Technology Management Program includes classes in management, entrepreneurship, new product development, marketing, and much more taught by world class scholars, highly successful business innovators and entrepreneurs. In addition, the program includes ten years of networking with California's top business and entrepreneurial leaders, a New Venture Competition that actually launches successful new ventures, student mentoring, a distinguished lecture series, an annual Energy Summit, and student centered experiential learning.   • Technology Management Program Entrepreneurs Resource Center
    This center provides both UCSB faculty and students with a wide range of resources for entrepreneurs, innovators and new venture start-up information. Initially, the "Center" will provide electronic resources such as "Your Questions Answered: Our E-Advice Forum" and recommended web sites. The center also offers workshops for entrepreneurs looking to enhance their technology, business, and management skills. In the future, the TMP Resource Center plans to expand to include journals, texts, and laboratories, such as a "hands-on" prototyping facility.

    The UCSB bookstore stocks over 27,000 titles in 122 categories. Its general book section offers an assortment of business management, computer programming, and professional skills books as well as thousands of textbooks. It features a selection of titles by local authors. It is also the only local bookstore to carry an impressive selection of books-on-tape.

  • Economic Forecast Project
    The UCSB Economic Forecast Project, founded in 1981, provides the community with up-to-the-minute information, analysis, and forecasts of economic, quality-of-life, demographic, and regional business trends occurring in the tri-county area. The project hosts seminars, provides data and analysis to government planners, distributes a large number of publications, and allows sponsors direct access to its database. Forecast Project staff also speak frequently at community events. Community-based firms or agencies that sponsor the Economic Forecast Project receive an annual seminar, an economic and demographic yearbook, and access to the project's database and consulting arm for customized data and research service.

    The mission of the UCSB Alumni Association Gaucho Getaways program is to provide educational, cultural and social interaction for UCSB alumni, family and friends through a stimulating travel experience.   • UCSB Speakers Bureau
    The UCSB Speakers Bureau is a community outreach program that provides a means for faculty and professional staff to share their knowledge, discuss contemporary and historical issues, nurture support for specific programs, and assist in the recruitment of top students. Faculty and staff deliver lectures, musical performances, and dramatic readings to a range of local business, service, and religious organizations.     The OPL cultivates partnerships with industry, universities, and government laboratories. Using ocean monitoring systems placed throughout the world, the Ocean Physics Lab is able to collect significant data about temperature, currents, salinity, and other marine elements.

  • Internship Programs
    UCSB students are sometimes able to combine an internship experience for credit towards their degree. Popular departments offering a concurrent weekly class with the part-time, internship hours include Environmental Studies, Communication, Film Studies, and Psychology. Some employers may wish to offer internship projects as part of one or several UCSB minors including the Writing Program (Technical, Editing, Business Communications); Exercise & Sports Studies (Athletic Coaching, Exercise & Health Science, Fitness Instruction and Sports Management); and Education Pre-Professional Program.

  • Alexandria Digital Library Project (ADL)
    The Alexandria Digital Library (ADL) is a distributed digital library with collections of georeferenced materials. ADL includes the operational library, with various nodes and collections, and the research program through which digital library architectures, gazetteer applications, educational applications, and software components are modeled, prototyped, and evaluated. The data is collected from libraries, academic institutions, private companies, and government agencies for long-term preservation.

  • Davidson Library
    UCSB's Davidson Library's extensive resources include specialized databases, rare collections, map rooms, government publications, and much more.   • Community Affairs Board (CAB) Volunteer Action Center
    By organizing the volunteer efforts of more than 5,000 students annually, the Community Affairs Board aids the community in taking action on key social issues such as poverty, education, individuals with disabilities and the environment. CAB seeks to augment classroom experiences, to create opportunities for career exploration, to connect UCSB to the community in a meaningful way, and to promote the ethics of public service through a variety of community and campus service projects. CAB volunteers give their time to more than 400 local nonprofit agencies and 18 national, state, and local associations including local schools, recreation centers, rehabilitation clinics, museums, nursing homes and much more.
